After receiving three large-scale equipment last week, the Canadian LNG plant in Kitimat has begun the "vertical" phase.

The staff unloaded a low-temperature heat exchanger (MCHE) weighing 937 tons and two pre-cooler units during the week of June 7.

After arriving at the New Material Unloading Facility (MOF) in Kitimat Port, the equipment was placed on a self-propelled transport vehicle and transported to the main construction area. These units moved up 3 kilometers along the new transportation road at the project site.

LNG Canada CEO Peter Zebedee said in a statement: "The receipt of our first main cryogenic heat exchanger and pre-cooler is another important milestone for the LNG Canada project and represents many of our firsts."

The MCHE device is the first of two devices installed on site and is about 50 meters long. LNG Canada said in a statement that once installed, the device will become one of the most prominent components in the facility.

MCHE is also known as the "heart" of LNG facilities and is used for LNG. After installation, the gas enters near the bottom of the MCHE and exits in a cooling state of minus 160 degrees Celsius. Then the liquefied gas is transported to storage tanks through pipelines and loaded onto special LNG transportation vehicles for transportation.

The second MCHE unit is expected to arrive later this year and will be equipped with two pre-coolers.

"This is the first time we have had the opportunity to receive critical infrastructure at our new material unloading facility, and it is also the first time we have transported heavy equipment along the new transportation road to our main construction site. Thank you thousands for helping us Highly skilled Canadians working on the project, we have made great progress in 2021, and we will safely reach more important milestones in the coming weeks and months."

The aluminum equipment is assembled in Germany by Linde plc, which is headquartered in Ireland.
